Climate activist Greta Thunberg had some choice words for the world leaders inside the Cop26 conference in Glasgow. Joined by some of the many activists rallying around the climate change meeting, Thunberg decried inaction from politicians and big business, saying ‘We are not going to let them get away with it anymore.’
What is Global Warming
The main driver of climate change is the greenhouse effect. Some gases in the Earth’s atmosphere act a bit like the glass in a greenhouse. This traps the sun’s heat and stops it from leaking back into space and causes global warming. Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as a whole.
The primary cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal. This emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere—carbon dioxide. Agriculture and deforestation, are also major factors contributing to climate change.
What are the effects of climate change and global warming?
- rising temperatures.
- rising sea levels
- higher ocean temperatures.
- an increase in heavy rain and hail
- shrinking glaciers.
- thawing permafrost.
The greenhouses gasses we put into the atmosphere stay there for thousands of years.
- Natural Gas and Coal 11 %
- Transportation 7%
- Agriculture 19%
- Heating 7%
- Manufacturing – Steel, Cement, Plastic, Industry takes up a lot of this.
The single most important thing for avoiding a climate disaster is cutting carbon pollution from the current 51 billion tons per year to zero, says philanthropist and technologist Bill Gates.
Introducing the concept of the “green premium” — the higher price of zero-emission products like electric cars, artificial meat or sustainable aviation fuel.
