The STUC Women’s Committee has been at the forefront of campaigning to expand universal free school meals for all. Join this online public supporters meeting to hear an update on the campaign, keynote contributions from guests and young people themselves, and how you can help drive the campaign forward and make real the rights of all young people to food, education, and fun.

Abortion Buffer Zones in Scotland – Trade Unionists Discussion with Gillian MacKay MSP | Friday, 23 September | 10.30am online

Gillan MacKay MSP has launched a private members bill on abortion services safe access zones. Trade union reps are invited to hear more about the proposed bill and consider what impact, if any, would safe access/buffer zones have on the future of protesting and industrial action.

Annual STUC Black History Month Lecture | Friday, 30 September 2022 | 6pm, Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel 
Following the damning review of the Scottish cricket governing body of institutional racism – our annual STUC Black History Month lecture will focus on tackling racism within Scottish sport. Cricket player Quasim Sheikh will address the lecture alongside a panel of black and minority ethnic sports people. Join the STUC Black Workers’ Committee and trade unionists as we reflect on the racism and underrepresentation of Black and Minority Ethnic people across sports in Scotland and how we can bring about systemic and structural change. More than 6750 migrant workers have died in Qatar building stadiums and facilities for the World Cup.
At the Scotland-Ireland football match on 24 September, the STUC will be asking Scotland supporters to show their support for migrant workers in Qatar.

Activist Education Courses

Please find below details of September online training courses where we still have availability.  If you are interested in attending, please arrange for the application form at the top of the page to be completed and then forward it to activisteducationscotland@unison.co.uk as soon as possible.  Please note that all of the courses are subject to numbers-4.30 pm)

  • Online Organising for Health & Safety – 13, 14, 20, 21 October (9.30 am – 1.00 pm)
  • Online ERA Refresher – 24 & 25 October (1.00-4.30 pm)

Many of the courses will be held online and others in one of our venues. Our venues have disabled access but disabilities vary greatly from individual to individual.
